Description
NOTE- the first 9 photos have been used for display and of a Kiribati lounge suite that we sold for a LOT more money than this last year. There are TWO of these suites currently available from the same home. Each of the two suites available in this listing have been grouped with other pieces of the same suite. The leather for each suite is slightly different and there are plenty of photos that accurately show the condition of every piece.
THIS VENDOR IS CURRENTLY RE-POLISHING THE PALMWOOD AND THE RESULTS ARE EXTRAORDINARY- WE’LL BE ADDING MORE PHOTOS TO THIS LISTING SOON TO SHOW HOW THE TIMBER RESPONDS TO A DAM-GOOD POLISH.
LOCATION- being sold under consignment from Stream Hill, WOLLONGONG. I personally travelled to this location to inspect these two suites and take the photos of all 8 items in this listing. This was some of the worst lighting I’ve had to work with- a house with plenty of trees and foliage outside that blocked a lot of natural light. I did the best I could with the best area I could find for photography. Luckily the condition of these two suites is brilliant with nothing that needs to be shown closely. The timber needs a bloody-good polish but it has no splits or cracks or anything of the sort. The leather has had some use but is in brilliant condition with nothing of concern that needed to shown closely. One of the sofas has wrinkled leather but NO cracks or NO areas of concern. Read more by clicking on the CONDITION tab. This vendor has TWO identical suites- both were occasional-use lounge suites and have never been in everyday use- they had another suite they used in the TV room. The first person to come forward gets to pick the suite they want- though both suites are very similar. One is FULL-GRAIN black glossy leather and the other is uniquely upholstered in hand-finished rub-off leather, featuring a rich, non-uniform finish where the black topcoat reveals varying amounts of the warm brown underneath. This two-tone leather accentuates the use of this FULL-GRAIN leather- the organic variation between the black top layer and brown base coat and the various natural textures in FULL-GRAIN leather ensures that every single piece of leather used is one-of-a-kind.
Both these suites use the best leather Pacific Green ever used—tough as nails, super thick, and incredibly hardy. Because of this exceptional quality, the leather remains in amazing condition after roughly 30 years of life. The timber pieces are all excellent, though it has never been polished. The original finish has virtually all weathered away over the decades- it is currently patchy in areas, but the underlying timber is fantastic. A thorough polish with Gilly Stephenson’s Scratch Cover (Dark) will beautifully nourish the wood, deepen the timber tone, even out the patchy tones, and bring out a striking shine. Note: I am currently having the vendor polish a few sections to demonstrate just how good the timber looks with minimal effort.
PRICED TO SELL!!! Price is $ for either of the 3-seater sofas. Either PAIR of matching chairs is $ . The matching Pacific Green coffee table is $ . Retail value of this suite is ABOUT $7,020 for just the sofa only AND $3,930 x 2 for the pair of chairs- $7,860 + $7,020 = $14,880 TOTAL for all 3 pieces. BUT this retail value is for the Pacific Green Cayenne suite. The Kiribati is no longer sold and is more complicated in construction (and nicer in looks) so this suite is worth more than the Cayenne – $14,880.
ABOUT THIS LOUNGE SUITE
This is the “Kiribati” design which was introduced by Pacific Green Furniture about 35 years ago. This particular suite is about 30 years old. There are a couple of old PACIFIC GREEN labels floating around with these suites (one has been photographed). This verifies the age of these suites and that they are VINTAGE and made in FIJI (and not China like new Pacific Green furniture).
Supreme sitting comfort and pure luxury, this suite is in a league of it’s own. Just look at those contours. Sweeping arms, angular sides- just breath-taking stuff! Don’t miss this suite- the price is about ONE THIRD retail. I doubt you’ll ever find another of these at this price again. There are some shops in Australia selling vintage Pacific Green for MORE than the new retail price. I have recently become a salesperson for NEW Pacific Green Furniture in Brisbane (message me if you’re in the Gold Coast, Brisbane or the Sunshine Coast and you’d like new Pacific Green Furniture for the best prices you can get in Australia.) The leather is pure luxury- definitely some of the best leather I’ve come across. The construction is just awesome too. Plus beautiful comfort- perfect angles and brilliant back support. This furniture is built to last FOREVER (not just one generation). It has a steel sub-structure and the timber pieces are clad onto a SOLID STEEL frame- just incredible stuff! You won’t find a more inspiring lounge suite again- particularly in this price range.
ABOUT PACIFIC GREEN
In my eyes, Pacific Green is one of the most inspiring brands in the world. It’s an Australian brand with humble beginnings starting back in the early 1970’s (as Post & Rail Furniture). Today in 2026, over 50 years on, Pacific Green is one of the most coveted furniture brands not only in Australia but the world. Second-hand Pacific Green items in the US often sell for DOUBLE what they sell for here. I’ve been dealing in pre-loved furniture for 25 years- it takes a lot for anything to stand out to me these days but Pacific Green without a doubt does. I specialise in finding items found in Australia- I don’t go overseas and fill up containers to bring here. We have so much inspiring stuff here in Australia there’s no need to. In my years in this business I think Pacific Green is the best furniture brand to ever come out of Australia. Tessa and FLER come close (but Tessa/FLER items tended to mimic what was done overseas at the time). Pacific Green does its own thing- their designs are distinctive, interesting, earthy, creative and certainly have “wow factor”. But stunning design is a small part of the appeal. The quality is EXCEPTIONAL. The CRAFTSMANSHIP BY HAND is exceptional. The ethos of Pacific Green is exceptional.
Put one of these chairs next to a Parker lounge chair from the 1960’s and there’s absolutely NO comparison. These chairs are HEAVY and been built to last forever. Not just one generation. If they’re looked after with some sense I see no reason why this suite won’t last forever. These chairs have a steel sub-structure so they’re solidly built and the eye for construction detail is not what I’ve ever come across before. You want a really strong furniture investment? Pacific Green is it in my eyes. And at this price, Pacific Green can’t even make this suite for this. That I know without a doubt as I now work selling new Pacific Green furniture.
Pacific Green uses coconut timber for the manufacture of all their furniture. Coconut wood is more resilient than virtually any timber- it thrives in areas battered by tropical cyclones. Pacific Green Furniture uses abandoned plantations of coconut palms in the South Pacific that were commercially planted in the early-1900’s but reached the end of productive fruiting. Instead of going to waste Pacific Green makes use of this valuable sustainable resource.
But the best part in my eyes is that Pacific Green have set a benchmark for modern, sustainable business for other businesses to follow. In the late-1980’s land was leased, not bought, to respect indigenous ownership. Their initial factory was built in consultation with the surrounding villages and employed only local people. Business and skills training programmes were established. That factory is OWNED BY FIJIANS- the drive of the business is Australian- the designing arm happened and still happens here in Australia.
I am inspired and heartened that a small Australian business changed tack the way they did back in the late-1980’s when ecological threats and socially-conscious business was barely ever thought of.
Right … I must talk about the actual suite on offer here. (Sorry for such a long-winded affair but the Pacific Green story needs to be told.) This design is called the “Kiribati”- I don’t think it’s produced anymore. I vaguely remember it on their website a few years ago but it doesn’t seem to be sold in Australia anymore. You can also see the durability of the construction from the photos- the meticulous eye for detail. It’s obvious this suite not just slapped together any old how. Pacific Green is not a flash in the pan- they’ve been around over 50 years- they earned their reputation long ago for furniture craftsmanship of the highest quality. This furniture is HAND-CRAFTED- a dying art but one that needs to be nurtured. You can see from the photos that PG have also considered the comfort. They’re great chairs to curl up in and find your own comfort (they’re a BIG size). There’s a great mix of softness AND support and the angles are spot-on for sitting in.
I love finding exciting furniture. Furniture like this is the reason I do this job. Pacific Green ignites inspiration- they tick every box and prove that businesses can be successful, ecologically-responsible and socially-aware. Pacific Green Furniture has been built to last and will continue to tell stories well after you and I are gone- just like Post & Rail furniture already has. Pacific Green will become the antiques of tomorrow. There’s no better way to invest in your home and reduce landfill.
